Umbraco Scotland Meetup, 7th May 2026.
Last night we headed across Glasgow for the latest Umbraco Scotland Meetup, hosted at the brilliant Factory73 HQ.
A huge thanks to Colin from Factory73 and Carol from Equator for organising another fantastic community event and bringing everyone together once again.
The Umbraco Scotland community continues to grow, and this meetup had a brilliant turnout, with more than 25 attendees from across the Umbraco ecosystem: content creators, designers, frontend and backend developers, agency owners, and even a few familiar MVP faces. Great conversations, presentations, pizza and refreshments made for a really enjoyable evening.
There was also some great engagement throughout the talks, with plenty of questions, shared experiences, and conversations flowing between sessions. Exactly what makes these meetups so valuable.
Carol provides an update on all things Umbraco.
Now, Next, Later:
The Future of Umbraco
Carol kicked things off with a great overview of everything happening across the Umbraco ecosystem, walking us through the “Now, Next, Later” roadmap and what’s ahead for both the CMS and Umbraco’s add-on products.
There’s a lot to be excited about, especially the introduction of global elements in Umbraco 18, alongside the growing focus on AI and how it will support content creation and digital experiences moving forward.
If you haven’t explored the roadmap yet, it’s well worth a look:

Carol also shared updates on the Umbraco UK Foundation and the upcoming Umbraco UK Conference, highlighting the continued growth of the community across the UK.
They're currently on the lookout for speakers for the October 2026 conference in London, so if you’ve got a story to tell or something to share, we’d definitely recommend putting yourself forward — especially after seeing how valuable these talks are (and having had our co-founder Paul take to the stage at the 2024 conference).
We were especially pleased to see the Umbraco UK Foundation website in action — proudly powered by uSkinned Site Builder on our Hosted platform.
uSkinned Technical Lead, Marc Love, in the hot seat.
Our Journey to Umbraco 17
Marc Love, one of the co-founders and Technical Lead here at uSkinned, then shared our journey moving uSkinned Site Builder from Umbraco 13 to Umbraco 17.
As a product that deeply integrates with Umbraco, the upgrade wasn’t just a simple version bump. Marc walked through how we approached the migration — starting with getting the project onto the latest version of Umbraco 13, upgrading .NET, and then incrementally working through the breaking changes introduced in 17.
A big part of the challenge came from the shift away from AngularJS to a modern TypeScript-based backoffice, along with changes to core features: the removal of the Umbraco Grid, updates to the media picker, and the replacement of TinyMCE. With over 20 custom property editors and more than 100 custom data types to migrate, alongside multiple backoffice extensions, it required careful planning and a lot of iteration.
One of the key themes of the talk was why we’ve taken our time. Being so deeply integrated with Umbraco means we often find issues that others won't, and we want to make sure the experience is rock-solid before release — not just functional, but something we’re proud to put our name to.
The session wrapped up with a live demo of where things are at today — and we’re really excited to confirm:
uSkinned Site Builder for Umbraco 17 is now ready to go and will launch alongside Umbraco 17.4 on 14th May 2026.
